The Second Floor of the old Mill

This level sifter hangs from 6 support rods at each corner, attached only to the ceiling, which act as shock absorbers. Another sifting machine turned the flour through a silk mesh cylinder.

After WWII, the demand for 'Just Right' flour decreased. Prebaked goods gained in popularity and used different kinds of flour. When the time came to renovate the diesel-operated mill, it was determined that the cash outlay was not justified by the demand.

For the remaining years, the mill sold feed and grain, retaining the miller and the bagger as employees in the Feed Department when flour production ceased.

Mr. James Edward Shortall, who had been with the company since September, 1951, was the mill's last manager.
