The Mill -- an Artist's Inspiration

In 1947, Quillen's mill became St. Michaels Mill, Inc., and in 1963 it was incorporated into Bayshore Foods, Inc.

Miss Mary Elizabeth Cohee was the Office Manager from 1943 onwards. She remembered at that time "flour was rationed and farmers had to sign for its purchase. A federal government order required all mills to step up their operations and turn out more flour from their wheat. We had to cut back on quality; the flour was darker in color because it wasn't as refined."
